De Rotterdamse Brandgrens (de brandgrenzen) markeert de delen van de stad die zijn verwoest door het bombardement op 14 mei 1940 en de daaruit voortvloeiende branden. Het bombardement duurde slechts een kwartier, maar wist vrijwel de hele Rotterdamse binnenstad te vernietigen. Eerder dit jaar nodigde CBK Rotterdam ontwerpers Wieki Somers, Atelier van Lieshout, Studio Anthon Beeke en West 8 uit om hun ideeën voor het markeren van de brandgrenzen te presenteren. Een jury werd gevraagd om één ontwerp te kiezen. Op maandag 14 mei 2007 is het winnende ontwerp van West 8 bekend gemaakt door vice-burgemeester van Rotterdam, Lucas Bolsius.
